Florida Pedestrian Crashes
Auto accidents are all too common in Florida, happening over 1,000 times per day. Approximately 2.5% of these crashes involve pedestrians. In one recent year, over 6,000 pedestrian collisions were reported in the Sunshine State resulting in over 400 deaths and approximately 5,000 injuries. Across the US, over 8,000 pedestrians lose their lives yearly.
Regrettably, most traffic collisions in the US and throughout the state of Florida involve negligent driving. Pedestrian crashes specifically are caused by negligent drivers over 52% of the time. Drivers who fail to yield to, or even see pedestrians, often cause these collisions, which result in severe or even fatal injuries more than 30% of the time.
Some of the most common types of negligent driving seen in the US today include intoxication, speeding, distraction, and fatigue. Driver distraction has become the most prevalent form of negligent driving in the US, causing over 400,000 traffic accidents per year.
