Tampa, FL (March 17, 2025) – Police in Tampa are currently investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Monday afternoon, March 17. Police were called to the scene at the intersection of East Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and North 50th Street shortly before 1:00 p.m. for a multi-car accident. Two men lost their lives in the crash, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Two minors were transported to the hospital in stable condition. Information from preliminary investigation reports shows a dump truck driver failed to notice stopped traffic ahead of him on North 50th Street when he swerved to attempt to avoid a crash. However, in doing so, he struck the rear of a mini-van with two minor passengers inside. The driver of the mini-van, a man in his 60s, lost his life shortly after being taken to the hospital. The two children were hospitalized with injuries. The dump truck then veered onto the shoulder of the roadway where he struck a man in his 20s who had briefly exited a company box truck to place a company sign on the roadway. The man who exited his vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The dump truck continued forward, striking three more cars before it stopped. Two of the three drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police in Tampa continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
