Tampa, FL (March 15, 2025) – A 48-year-old Ruskin man lost his life in a collision in Tampa on Saturday morning, March 15. Police say the accident occurred at approximately 7:17 a.m. on Interstate 4 when the man was traveling in a Kia Sedona along with three passengers. The vehicle was in the inside lane when a 21-year-old man from Parrish in a Nissan Pathfinder was traveling in the center lane. East of I-275, near milepost 1, the Sedona traveled across the inside shoulder before striking an attenuator. That impact redirected the Kia back onto the roadway before colliding with the Nissan.
According to preliminary reports, one of the passengers inside the Kia was ejected from the vehicle. The 48-year-old male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The three people inside the Kia suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby medical facility. The 21-year-old inside the Pathfinder did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Police in Tampa continue to investigate.
We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim. We also hope for the full recovery of the injured victims.
Florida Traffic Collisions
The Sunshine State sees more than 400,000 traffic accidents per year that injure around 150,000 people. Sadly, roughly 3,000 people are killed yearly in Florida auto accidents. The main cause of the majority of these wrecks is driver negligence, specifically speeding, distraction, and intoxication.
Across the country, over 6 million car crashes occur per year. Around 3 million people are hurt in these incidents, while more than 40,000 lose their lives. Distractions, including talking on the phone, texting and driving, speaking to other passengers inside the vehicle, and fidgeting with the GPS or the radio, can significantly contribute to causing car crashes.
In the last ten years, texting while driving has become a serious problem, with millions of drivers choosing to engage in this activity while on the road. This dangerous behavior risks the lives of countless individuals per year, and those who cause accidents of this nature need to be held responsible.
