Pinellas Co., FL (September 26, 2024) – An off-duty Hillsborough County deputy was hurt and a driver was arrested after a wrong-way collision in Pinellas County.
Information provided by the Florida Highway Patrol shows that the crash happened just before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25. Reports show a Dodge Ram pickup was headed north in a southbound lane on Interstate 275 when they were apprehended by police. After evading a trooper’s PIT maneuver, the driver fled at high speed before colliding head-on with a Ford F-150 operated by a 33-year-old off-duty Hillsborough sheriff’s deputy. After the wreck, the driver fled on foot until they were apprehended and arrested by St Petersburg police officers. The off-duty deputy sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The driver who caused the crash was reportedly impaired over three times the legal limit. Police in Pinellas County continue to investigate the details of the accident.
