Florida Auto Accidents
Florida sees a staggering number of motor vehicle accidents each year, with tens of thousands of crashes reported monthly. In fact, according to data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), the state experiences more than 380,000 auto collisions annually. Tragically, over 3,500 to 4,000 lives are lost each year on Florida roadways due to these devastating incidents. Many of these fatalities occur in highly populated areas such as Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, and Broward counties, where traffic density increases the risk of serious accidents.
The overwhelming majority of these crashes are caused by negligent driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that driver-related factors—such as distraction, intoxication, fatigue, and speeding—are responsible for over 90% of traffic accidents nationwide. In Florida, impaired driving alone accounts for over 800 fatalities annually, while distracted driving contributes to thousands of injuries and hundreds of deaths each year. Fatigue, though often overlooked, continues to be a dangerous factor behind collisions, particularly on long highways or during nighttime travel.
