Florida Car Accidents
According to A Safer Florida, the Sunshine State has the highest pedestrian death rate in the nation. This unfortunate distinction can be partly attributed to Florida’s large population, which contributes to a higher number of accidents. With a growing number of residents and visitors on the roads, the risk of pedestrian accidents remains elevated.
Recent data reveals a troubling trend: between 2010 and 2021, pedestrian fatalities across the United States have been steadily rising. In 2021 alone, over 7,500 pedestrians tragically lost their lives in accidents, marking a significant increase from previous years. The total number of pedestrian deaths has surged by nearly 50% since 2009. Florida, as the state with the highest pedestrian fatality rate, reflects this disturbing national trend. The state has consistently ranked among the worst for pedestrian deaths, with Florida accounting for nearly one in five pedestrian fatalities nationwide.
Pedestrians face a heightened risk of severe or fatal injuries in traffic accidents due to the lack of protection when walking alongside much larger, faster-moving vehicles. Recovering from these types of injuries often requires extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and a significant period of adjustment, placing a tremendous burden on the victims and their families.
