Florida Traffic Accidents
Every year, Florida experiences over 400,000 auto accidents, resulting in injuries to approximately 150,000 people and tragically claiming around 3,000 lives annually. Known as the Sunshine State, Florida has one of the highest rates of car crashes in the nation. The leading causes of these accidents are rooted in driver negligence, particularly intoxication, speeding, and distracted driving.
Nationwide, over 6 million auto accidents occur each year, injuring around 3 million people and causing tens of thousands of fatalities. Among these, distractions like texting and driving, talking on the phone, engaging in conversations with passengers, or adjusting in-car devices such as the radio or GPS play a significant role in causing collisions. In recent years, texting while driving has become an increasingly dangerous issue, with millions of drivers putting others at risk through this reckless behavior. Drivers who cause accidents due to such distractions should be held accountable for their actions.
In Florida, specifically, statistics from 2022 show that crashes involving distracted driving made up a notable percentage of total accidents. Florida’s urban areas, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Hillsborough counties, frequently rank among the highest in terms of crash volume. The state’s expansive roadways and high tourist traffic add to the risks.
