Florida Traffic Accidents
Car crashes are a common problem in Florida and throughout the United States. In 2023, more than 397,000 traffic accidents were reported in the Sunshine State. Sadly, over 3,000 people lost their lives in these collisions. That same year, Florida also reported more than 100,000 hit-and-run crashes, over 10,000 pedestrian-related deaths, and over 8,000 bicycle wrecks. These figures place Florida among the top three states with the highest number of traffic collisions annually in the US.
Regrettably, most car accidents in Florida and nationwide are caused by negligent driving, a serious issue over the past ten years that accounts for over 90% of reported crashes. Some of the most prevalent forms of negligent driving include:
- Fatigue
- Distraction
- Speeding
- Intoxication
In one recent year, over 400,000 traffic accidents were caused by distracted driving across the country. Additionally, speeding took over 11,000 lives in 2022.
