Broward Co., FL (December 17, 2024) – Two women lost their lives, and four other people were hurt in a traffic accident on Interstate 95 in Broward County. The collision occurred when a vehicle crashed into a previous crash scene late Sunday, police said. On December 15, the wreck occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 north of Atlantic Boulevard. Florida Highway Patrol officials said a Toyota Corolla and a Hyundai Elantra were involved in a minor collision and were stopped in the inside general purpose lanes with their hazard lights on, as well as their headlights and tail lights. The two drivers were exchanging information outside their vehicles when a Toyota Camry made an impact on them. A woman who was standing outside the vehicle lost her life, along with another woman who was inside the Hyundai. Three men and a woman also suffered injuries in the accident, including the driver of the Camry and a man standing outside the vehicles. All interstate lanes were closed for several hours as police worked to investigate the crash, and heavy traffic delays were reported in the area. Police in Broward County continue to investigate.
We want to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased victims. We hope for the full recovery of those with injuries.
Florida Car Accidents
Car accidents happen for many reasons, but in Florida, they occur at an alarming rate—over 1,000 times per day. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people are injured in traffic collisions, and thousands lose their lives. In one recent year alone, over 3,000 people tragically died in car crashes in the Sunshine State.
New data from 2023 underscores the severity of the issue. Florida reported nearly 400,000 car crashes, resulting in over 250,000 injuries and approximately 3,300 fatalities. Nearly 25% of these deaths were caused by impaired driving, while distracted driving and speeding were responsible for thousands of injuries and deaths. These statistics highlight the dangers that drivers face daily on Florida’s roads.
For those who sustain injuries in car wrecks, life can be turned upside down. Accident victims often face mounting expenses related to medical bills, lost wages, and vehicle repairs, not to mention the emotional and physical toll of recovery. The stress of managing these challenges alone can feel overwhelming.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash caused by negligence, you shouldn’t have to face the financial burden alone. Working with a car accident attorney can help you secure the compensation you need and deserve to cover damages such as medical costs, lost income, emotional distress, and more.
