
Altoona, FL (January 8, 2025) – A fatal traffic accident closed a portion of County Road 42 in Altoona on Wednesday morning, January 8. Information provided by the Florida Highway Patrol shows the collision occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. at State Road 19. According to reports, a vehicle headed east on CR-42 failed to negotiate a curve. Due to this, the vehicle entered the westbound lane and collided with two other vehicles. Two of the vehicles were struck head-on, police said. Following the initial crash, a third vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but rear-ended the back of the vehicle it was traveling behind. One of the involved drivers, identified as a 21-year-old man from Hillsborough County, lost his life at the scene. Two other involved drivers, a 20-year-old Port Orange resident and a 28-year-old DeLand resident, suffered minor injuries in the accident. Police in Altoona continue to investigate the details of the accident.
