Florida Traffic Collisions
Auto collisions are a significant issue in Florida and throughout the US. In 2023, over 297,000 traffic accidents were reported in the Sunshine State. Unfortunately, more than 3,000 individuals were killed in these wrecks. That same year, Florida reported over 100,000 hit-and-run collisions, more than 10,000 pedestrian-related fatalities, and over 8,000 bicycle collisions. These figures rank Florida among the top three states in the nation with the highest number of auto accidents reported in the United States.
Sadly, the majority of traffic accidents in Florida and nationwide are caused by negligent drivers, a severe problem over the last decade that accounts for more than 90% of reported accidents. Some of the most common types of driver negligence include:
- Distraction
- Speeding
- Fatigue
- Intoxication
In one recent year, more than 400,000 auto accidents were caused by distracted drivers throughout the nation. Speeding took the lives of more than 11,000 people in 2022, while intoxication was behind approximately 12,000 deaths that same year.
