Jackson Co., FL (January 1, 2025) – A fatal traffic accident in Jackson County claimed the lives of two people on Saturday, December 28. According to local news sources, the wreck occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. when a pickup truck was headed west on Welcome Church Road. The truck failed to negotiate a left curve, left the roadway, and entered the northern grass shoulder. Police say that while the truck was on the shoulder, its front portion collided with a tree. This caused the pickup truck to redirect back into the westbound lane as it turned clockwise and overturned. The truck came to a final resting spot in the westbound lane, overturned onto its right side, facing northeast. The truck then caught fire, police said. Officials confirmed the people inside were deceased at the scene. They were identified as a 3-year-old child and a 46-year-old man. Police in Jackson County continue to investigate.
We want to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.
Florida Car Crashes
Traffic accidents are a frequent issue in Florida and across the United States. In 2023, the Sunshine State experienced approximately 397,000 traffic accidents, resulting in more than 3,000 fatalities. While fatal accidents decreased by about 6% compared to the previous year, traffic-related deaths continue to pose a significant concern. Florida also reported over 100,000 hit-and-run incidents, over 10,000 pedestrian-related fatalities, and more than 8,000 bicycle accidents. These figures place Florida among the top three states with the highest number of traffic collisions annually in the US.
Regrettably, the majority of traffic accidents in Florida and nationwide are attributed to driver negligence, a pressing issue over the past decade that accounts for over 90% of reported crashes. Some of the most prevalent forms of negligent driving include:
- Distraction
- Fatigue
- Speeding
- Intoxication
In one recent year, distracted driving caused over 400,000 traffic accidents across the United States. Additionally, speeding claimed more than 11,000 lives in 2022.
