Bonita Springs, FL (October 8, 2024) – Troopers in Bonita Springs were dispatched to the scene of a fatal collision on Interstate 75 on Tuesday, October 8.
Preliminary reports show the incident occurred between Bonita Beach Road and Corkscrew Road at approximately 1:00 a.m. when a 33-year-old man from Fort Myers was headed south on I-75 north of Bonita Beach Road. A Cape Coral woman, age 45, accompanied by a 47-year-old North Port man was stopped on the outside shoulder in the southbound lanes of the interstate when the Fort Myers man lost control of his vehicle. He left the roadway and struck a trailer attached to the car parked on the shoulder.
The Fort Myers man lost his life at the crash scene. His name has not been reported at this time. The road was blocked for several hours while emergency responders worked in the area, and local motorists were urged to use alternate travel routes. Police in Bonita Springs continue to investigate the details of the accident.
